Gryphons Draw with Knights for Second Straight Season

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team remains undefeated in Skyline play this season as they played Mount Saint Mary to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, the second straight matchup between the two teams that has ended in a draw. Last season, the Knights came to Yonkers where they played SLC to a 3-3 tie in the regular season.

Notable Performers
  • Katey Beaver continued her hot stretch of play, scoring SLC's lone goal in the 37th minute
  • Grace Carter assisted Beaver on her score, helping give the Gryphons a first-half lead
  • Bella Vaca played all 90 minutes in goal, totaling three saves in the effort

How it Happened

Both teams had early looks on goal, with saves from both keepers in the first ten minutes setting the tone early. Beaver would get her opportunity in the 37th minute, taking a pass from Carter and controlling the ball at the top of the box, making one move and putting the ball over the keeper to open the day's scoring. After a scoreless start to the second half, the Knights finally got on the board, with a corner kick turning into a header from Genesis De Leon Portillo that tied the game at one goal apiece and eventually led to the draw.

Up Next

The Gryphons (4-3-1, Skyline 1-0-1) will return to action on Friday as they head to Maritime for another Skyline matchup. The Gryphons and Privateers will face off at 7:00 p.m. from Throggs Neck as SLC looks to remain undefeated in Skyline play.
