Women's Soccer Scores 5+ Goals for Fourth Straight Game in Win over Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team used a strong second half to defeat Maritime 7-1 on Friday night. The Gryphons led narrowly at the halftime intermission before five second-half scores allowed them to earn a decisive Skyline road victory.

Notable Performers How it Happened

The Gryphons wasted no time asserting their control over the match, with Barker opening the scoring in the 12th minute, assisted by the aforementioned Chaffin. Maritime took their opportunity to score in the 26th minute, as Kiera Ford headed the ball into the goal off a free kick to even the score(. Despite the Privateers tying the contest, Sarah Lawrence continued to pile on the pressure throughout the first half to the tune of 21 shots. Just before halftime a second shot connected, as Matalus doubled the lead with a goal in the 44th minute, set up by Duckrey on a great pass into the top of the box. The score gave SLC the lead once again and the Gryphons entered the halftime intermission up by a score.

The Gryphons came out strong again in the second half, using the momentum from their last-minute score in the first, as Barker quickly added her second goal of the night just two minutes after the restart in the 47th minute. Chaffin followed up with a goal of her own in the 49th minute, assisted by Cora Colvin, to put Sarah Lawrence up 4-1. Balbin joined the scoring in the 51st minute to make it 5-1, beating the keeper 1-on-1 in front of the net as Maritime struggled to keep up with the relentless attack of the Gryphons. Moor netted her first of the season in the 65th minute with an assist from Alexis Valdes, followed by Julianna's goal in the 83rd minute, assisted by fellow sophomore Ava Warren, sealing the 7-1 win.
