Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Perbeck

Early Score by Peter Miles Catalyzes Six Goal Outburst to lead Men's Soccer over Purchase

YONKERS, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team defeated the Purchase College Panthers by a score of 6-3 on Saturday at Fleming Field. The Gryphons are now 1-1 on the year in Skyline play and look to carry the momentum from today into the remainder of their conference slate.

Notable Performers
  • Peter Miles opened the games scoring in the first minute after a beautiful pass by teammate Simon Kopecky
  • Jonah Zalis played all 90 minutes for the Gryphons, making five saves, including some incredible efforts to keep the Panthers from closing the gap late in the game
  • The midfield duo of Eloy Pampin and Leon Bronshvag each totaled two assists for SLC in the winning effort
How it Happened

The Gryphons took control early, with the aforementioned Miles scoring just 1 minute and 10 seconds into the game, after Kopecky made the extra pass to the right side of the box. Their momentum continued as Jude Jordi-Donnelly doubled the lead in the 16th minute, heading in a beautifully placed ball from Pampin. Nicholas Fajardo further extended the Gryphons' advantage with his first score of the year in the 28th minute, assisted by Bronshvag. Purchase College managed to pull one back quickly through Yahir Tafoya in the 29th minute. However, Sarah Lawrence struck again, with Leon Bronshvag scoring unassisted on a free kick opportunity just before halftime, making it 4-1 at the intermission.

In the second half, Sarah Lawrence kept the pressure on, with Pampin finding Asefa Thome in the 62nd minute for the Gryphons' fifth goal of the day. Purchase responded in the 71st minute with a goal from Liam George, narrowing the deficit to 5-2. Ten minutes later, Tafoya scored his second of the game, giving the Panthers hope at 5-3. However, Sarah Lawrence sealed the victory when Jozef Kandrac scored on a breakaway in the 86th minute, assisted once again by Bronshvag, securing a final score of 6-3. SLC's defense held firm in the closing minutes, with Zalis making multiple key saves to ensure the victory despite Purchase's late push.
