The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Andrew Jung capitalized on a defensive lapse, scoring an unassisted goal to put the Mariners up 1-0. Just a minute later, Jung struck again, this time assisted by Blake Landreneau, doubling USMMA's lead and putting Sarah Lawrence on the back foot for the remainder of the half.
The Gryphons tried to respond, creating several opportunities through Eloy Pampin and Connor Saul, but USMMA goalkeeper Ethan Howell stood firm, making crucial saves to maintain the 2-0 lead going into halftime. Sarah Lawrence struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to break through USMMA's well-organized defense.
In the second half, Sarah Lawrence pressed harder, taking more shots on goal, but the Mariners kept their defensive shape, frustrating the Gryphons.
