Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Perbeck

Men's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season over Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer team earned their first victory of the season, defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College 1-0 on a second-half score by one of SLC's first years.

Notable Performers
  • Dean Brown scored his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute, which would eventually be the game-winner for the Gryphons
  • Jonah Zalis and Elijah Shohat both kept the Bulldogs scoreless, with each keeper making three saves in the win
  • Leon Bronshvag and Asefa Thome registered SLC's other two shots on goal, both being saved by Brooklyn's Brian Perea

How it Happened

Zalis was tested early on, with two of Brooklyn's six shots on goal coming in the first 12 minutes. The Gryphons would be unable to get any shots on goal throughout the first half, unable to threaten the Bulldogs until the final minutes. In the 42nd minute first year Ayden Wrye would get a shot blocked and a minute later Leon Bronshvag would hit the crossbar on a chance to take the lead. Bronshvag would put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but it would be saved by Brooklyn's keeper and the game would remain scoreless. After a yellow card in the 63rd minute, Dean Brown, a first-year from Connecticut, would step up to take the free kick and curve the ball into the left side of the goal for his first collegiate score and give the Gryphons their first lead of the season. Shohat would make his final two saves within the next 10 minutes and the Bulldogs would not register a shot after the 70th minute as the Gryphons held onto the lead for the first victory in their 2024 campaign.
