How it Happened

The Gryphons exploded offensively in the first half, scoring four times in the opening 37 minutes. Chaffin then added a goal of her own in the 27th minute, and Balbin made it 4-0 in the 36th with a strike from distance on a free kick. Maritime pulled one back through Divine Awoleke in the 41st minute, but SLC carried a commanding 4-1 lead into halftime.

The Gryphons kept up the pressure in the second half, continuing to dominate possession and create chances. Chaffin struck again in the 56th minute, converting a pass from Beaver to extend the advantage to 5-1. From there, the offense poured it on. Phoebe Workman finished off a setup from Balbin in the 83rd minute, Perez followed with a goal seconds later, and Whitney Erickson capped the scoring with an 86th-minute strike for Sturgill's second assist of the day to make it 8-1.
