KING'S POINT, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team fell 8-1 to the conference-leading Mariners of USMMA despite a penalty kick goal from senior
Aidan Roney. The Gryphons will look to end the season on a high note as they celebrate Senior Day on Wednesday to round out their 2025 schedule.
How it Happened
The Mariners struck early and often, jumping out to a 2–0 lead within the first nine minutes thanks to goals from Jack Ouellette and Drew Boukidis. Sarah Lawrence fought to steady the match behind multiple saves from goalkeeper Jonah Zalis, who turned away several first-half shots to keep the Gryphons within reach. In the 42nd minute, Aidan Roney got Sarah Lawrence on the board, converting a penalty kick to make it 2–1, but Merchant Marine quickly responded before halftime to restore a two-goal cushion.
The second half saw the hosts pull away despite a handful of chances from Peter Miles, Asefa Thome, and Leon Bronshvag, who helped generate attacking pressure through the midfield. Zalis continued to come up with key saves, including several on close-range efforts, but the Mariners' attack remained relentless, adding five more goals to seal the result.
