11.10.25

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence College Director of Athletics and Physical Education Kristin Maile is proud to announce the Sarah Lawrence College Athletics 2025 Hall of Fame inductees: Sophia Spralja '19, Megan Angelini '07, and longtime administrator Mary LeVine. These three honorees represent the heart of SLC Athletics, including excellence, leadership, and a lasting commitment to building the foundation and spirit of Sarah Lawrence sports. Each inductee's impact, both during their time at the College and beyond, continues to inspire the next generation of student-athletes and staff within the SLC community.

Sophia Spralja '19 left an enduring mark on Sarah Lawrence women's soccer as one of the program's trailblazers. The first-ever recruit in team history, Spralja set the standard for excellence and leadership as a three-time team MVP, 2019 SLC Female Athlete of the Year, and Skyline Conference First Team selection. Serving as a captain and central midfielder, she helped shape the foundation of a growing program, undoubtedly playing a role in the team's later successes, including a Skyline Conference Championship in 2022. After graduation, Spralja continued to exemplify the values of a Gryphon, currently earning a master's degree at Yale University while previously representing the Vatican City State's women's soccer team and working for the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. Her journey, from helping pioneer a young SLC program to competing internationally, reflects the resilience and passion that define Sarah Lawrence Athletics.

Megan Angelini '07 was a cornerstone of Sarah Lawrence women's tennis during the early 2000s, helping lead the program to a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference championship in 2005. A three-time All-Conference selection, Angelini compiled an impressive 38-7 career singles record and captured the 2005 conference doubles title alongside teammate Sarah Merchlewicz. Her success on the court earned her the prestigious Gryphon Award in 2007, recognizing her excellence and leadership within SLC athletics. Angelini credits her time as a Gryphon for teaching her the balance between intellectual pursuit and physical passion, and the power of teamwork that makes competition meaningful. Today, she serves as Assistant Director at the American Society for Microbiology Press and holds a PhD in molecular biology and virology from UC Irvine, continuing to embody the curiosity, dedication, and joy that defined her years as a student-athlete.

For more than two decades, Mary LeVine served as a driving force behind the growth and evolution of Sarah Lawrence College Athletics. As Director of Physical Education & Athletics, LeVine played a pivotal role in shaping the identity of the department, guiding its expansion from humble beginnings into multiple vibrant and competitive programs. Her leadership and vision helped lay the foundation for generations of Gryphons to come, culminating in memorable milestones such as the opening of the Campbell Sports Center, the development of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC), and the first steps of Sarah Lawrence's transition to NCAA competition. A recipient of the Alice Stone Ilchman Service Award and a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in softball, LeVine's legacy is defined by dedication, mentorship, and an unwavering belief in the power of teamwork. Her message to the SLC community to be true to yourself, work hard, and lift up those around you continues to embody the spirit she instilled in Gryphon Athletics.

The 2025 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 15, as part of Sarah Lawrence College's Homecoming celebrations. The Department of Athletics looks forward to honoring these outstanding individuals whose contributions have elevated SLC Athletics and left a lasting legacy on the College community.
