Swimming Uses All-Around Effort to Defeat Brooklyn College on the Road

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence swim teams returned from a dual meet against the hosting Brooklyn College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon with a victory, as the women's team ended up defeating the hosts by eighty points. The Gryphons had eight different swimmers across both teams win individual events while the women's team dominated both relay events.

Sarah Lawrence set the tone early with a win in the women's 200 medley relay, as Aubrey Rosser, Cordelia Bay, Hannah Drum, and Krista Burgess opened the meet in front at 2:13.85. In the women's 1000 freestyle, Ava Greengrass pulled away for the win in 12:58.84, with Olivia Huie following in second place. Patrick Rau then claimed the men's 1000 freestyle in 12:00.08, besting a pair of Bulldogs. The women's 200 freestyle brought another strong showing, with Julia Maecker winning in 2:06.70 and Keilani Talma taking second at 2:10.19, while Ella Hernan added another scoring finish with a third-place finish in 2:15.67. In the women's 50 free, Amelie Burg placed second in 27.69 and Kirsten Eads took third in 28.05, with additional help from Krista Burgess and Allie Abemayor, who finished in fourth- and sixth-place respectively. Moss McHold-Burke led the Gryphons in the men's 50 free with a fourth-place finish at 24.79 while Bay kept SLC rolling with a win in the women's 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:39.61. The women's 100 butterfly saw Talma and Drum go 1-2 with times of 1:05.19 and 1:09.72, respectively, while Amelie Burg and Juliet Delap also contributed scoring placements. Rau followed with a runner-up finish in the men's 100 butterfly at 1:02.64.

Bay picked up another top finish in the women's 100 freestyle by taking second, followed by Greengrass in third and Abemayor adding another placement. SLC swept the top three spots in the women's 100 backstroke behind Hernan, Maecker, and Eads. In the women's 500 free, Rosser won in 6:12.70 with Burgess taking second, while Huie and Delap added additional scoring depth. Eads secured the women's 100 breaststroke as the lone SLC swimmer, and Rau earned second in the men's 100 breaststroke. The Gryphons capped the meet with a win in the women's 200 free relay behind Drum, Burg, Hernan, and Talma, as the group touched the wall in 1:50.95, a nearly five-second advantage over Brooklyn's squad.

The Gryphons will return to action next weekend as they host a two-day tournament in Bronxville. The Gryphons will welcome Baruch College, Lehman College and the Fashion Institute of Technology to the Campbell Sports Center for a 5:00 p.m. start on Friday night before the schools return on Sunday as they dive into day two at noon.
