Women's Swimming Dominates Mount Saint Mary on Senior Day

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence Men's and Women's swim teams celebrated five outstanding seniors on Saturday, taking down the Knights of Mount Saint Mary in dominant fashion with a scoreline of 140-43. The Gryphons also competed with the Division II College of Staten Island, battling the visiting Dolphins to a 101-91 result. The Gryphons combined for 17 lifetime-best performances, highlighted by a standout 400 IM from a sophomore that ranks fourth all-time in program history.

The Gryphons kicked off the meet with a relay victory against the Knights, as Ella Hernan, Cordelia Bay, Keilani Talma and Kirsten Eads completed the 200 yard medley relay in 2:02.53, besting the team from Newburgh by over ten seconds. Olivia Huie, Jocelyn Engel and Juliet DeLap all took the pool for the 1000 yard freestyle, with each improving upon their seed time by over 40 seconds. Talma returned to the pool for the team's first individual victory of the day, besting all swimmers with a time of 2:06.34 in the 200 yard freestyle. Hernan joined Talma at the top of the leaderboard in the event, finishing second amongst all Skyline swimmers and third overall wtih a time of 2:10.39. Ava Greengrass was the third Gryphon in the event to outswim the MSMC top finisher, completing the event in 2:21.74. In the 50 yard freestyle, the Gryphons dominated once again, with sophomore Amelie Burg winning the event outright with a time of 26.72 while Hannah Drum finished as the runner-up just four tenths of a second later. First year Cordelia Bay bested MSMC's top swimmer in the event by over a second, finishing fifth overall behind a pair of CSI swimmers.

In the 400 yard Individual Medley, Eads returned to the pool, putting up a time of 5:16.15 and making her the fourth-fastest Gryphon to swim the 400 IM in program history. Eads and teammate Aubrey Rosser both beat the competitor for the Knights, further helping the Gryphons against their Skyline opponents. Talma then returned to the pool for another outright victory, this time pacing the field in the 200 yard butterfly with a finish in 2:27.85. Burg continued the team's strong performance in the 100 yard freestyle by teaming up with senior Krista Burgess to extend the team's already-large lead over the Knights. The pair finished second and third overall and both bested MSMC's pair in the event, as Burg touched the wall with a time of 59.63 while Burgess was right behind with a time of 1:03.31. Hernan would earn a win over MSMC in the 200 yard backstroke on her senior day, finishing second overall and touching the wall before a pair of Knights, with a time of 2:25.43. Drum and Greengrass stepped up next for SLC, with top-three swims in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing only behind CSI's Michalina Bukowska. Eads, Bay and Rosser were the first three Skyline swimmers to finish the 200 yard breaststroke, besting MSMC's top finisher by over six seconds. Eads finished in under three minutes, earning a second-place overall finish while Bay and Rosser completed the event in just over three minutes, earning third- and fourth-place finishes.

On the men's side, Patrick Rau had a strong showing on his senior day, finishing second overall in the 200 yard freestlye and beating MSMC's top swimmer in the event by over sevent seconds. Rau then returned to the pool for the 200 yard butterfly, beating swimmers from both CSI and MSMC with a first-place swim that saw the senior touch the wall in 2:18.19. Rau bested four swimmers in the event, a pair from each visiting school. The senior finished fifth overall in the 200 yard breaststroke to round out the day, finishing under two seconds behind MSMC's top swimmer.
