How it Happened

The Gryphons got offensive contributions from six different players in the first quarter en route to a 21-16 advantage. Eng-Stewart and Hudson combined for 13 of the team's 21 points, as the Lyons turned the ball over nine times in the first ten minutes. The Gryphons opened the second quarter with a highlight-reel play, as Theriault took a steal and found Hudson for a score with a behind-the-back pass. Hudson and Eng-Stewart would keep leading the charge, scoring the team's first nine second-quarter points. Senior Kaila Dorch stepped up on an inbounds play, as Eng-Stewart found the senior for a triple at the top of the key. The Gryphons kept the foot on the gas, going up by 12 with just over a minute to play in the half, but a three-point play and a last-minute score by the Lyons cut the lead to seven at the intermission.

After exchanging scores to start the second half, the Gryphons went on a 7-0 run capped by an Emrie Pedraza three-pointer that put the hosts up by 14. The visitors would embark on a seven-point run of their own before a last-minute score by Eng-Stewart extended the lead to nine points once again, sending the Gryphons into the final quarter with a three-score cushion. Two straight scores by the Lyons to start the quarter cut the lead to five, but two straight scores by Theriault started a 9-0 SLC run that put SLC up by double-digits with just over five minutes to play. Familiar faces kept the Gryphons ahead late in the quarter, as Coughlin, Hudson and Eng-Stewart all netted scores before an Audrey Mattison score in the final minute secured the victory.
