Rau Wraps SLC Career with Spotless Day while Women's Swimming Sweeps York

12.6.25

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's swimming team dominated York College in Saturday's dual meet as the Gryphons won each individual and relay event. On the men's side, Patrick Rau won all four of his events in dominant fashion, closing out an impressive SLC career with a spotless meet.

The Gryphons started the meet out with a pair of strong relay swims in the 200 medley. The group of Ella Hernan, Kirsten Eads, Cordelia Bay and Ava Greengrass touched the wall in 2:17.25 before Amelie Burg, Aubrey Rosser, Juliet DeLap and Olivia Huie finished with a time of 2:30.87. Rosser and Eads returned to the pool for swims in the 200 freestyle, finishing neck-and-neck, with Rosser earning a win by just six-tenths of a second over teammate Eads. The 50 freestyle followed, with Krista Burgess winning the event with a time of 29.25, keeping the Gryphons spotless through three events. The Gryphons then put together strong swims in the 100 I.M., with seniors Hernan and Talma leading the charge. Hernan touched the wall in 1:08.37 with Talma close behind in 1:11.4 while Bay and Burg were close behind with sub-1:18 swims. Talma returned to the pool just two events later, avenging her loss to Hernan with a win in the 50 butterfly, besting Burg and Rosser with a sub-30 swim to keep the Gryphons on top. Greengrass and Alessandra Abemayor battled in the 100 freestyle, with the former coming out on top with a time of 1:10.30.

The 50 backstroke saw Talma return to the pool once again, continuing a strong meet with a win over York's Jordanna Jervis. Talma completed the event in 32.21 for the victory, her second of the day. Four Gryphons dove in for the 500 freestyle event, as Bay, Burg, Huie and DeLap each completed the event with Bay and Burg leading the charge with sub-seven-minute times. Bay touched the wall under two seconds ahead of Burg, with the duo turning in times of 6:39.98 and 6:41.68. Hernan, not to be outdone, returned to the pool for a final individual swim, taking the 50 breaststroke with a time of 39.40 for win number two in addition to the meet-opening relay victory. The Gryphons then wrapped the meet with two more strong relay swims. This time, Talma, Burg, Eads and Burgess touched the wall first with a time of 1:54.76, while Greengrass, Abemayor, Bay and Rosser did so in a time of 2:10.16.

On the men's side, Rau started his day with a career-best swim in the 100 I.M., touching the wall in 1:05.22 for the first of his four victories. The senior returned to the pool a couple of events later for the 50 butterfly, finishing the event in 28:08 and besting the competitor from York by over 17 seconds. Rau's third event was an uncontested 500 freestyle, and the senior earned win number three with a time of 5:51.70, positioning himself well for a clean sweep of events with the upcoming 50 breaststroke on the horizon. Two events later, Rau's finale would commence, facing off against a Cardinal in the final event of his SLC career. The senior did not disappoint, dominating the event with at time of 34.32 and rounding out a four-win day.
