Furlong Stuffs Stat Sheet as Men's Basketball takes on Purchase in Nail-Biter

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team fell to the Purchase College Panthers by a score of 65-62 on Tuesday night, as the hosts used a 37-point first half to distance themselves from the Gryphons.

Notable Performers
  • Chris Dougherty led the team with 17 points, adding in 12 boards for his second consecutive double-double
  • Aiden Morel scored 12 points off the bench while pulling down six rebounds
  • Dean Furlong did a bit of everything, scoring six points, blocking a pair of shots, distributing four assists, pulling down nine rebounds and swiping three steals

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the Gryphons taking the lead multiple times. Thomas Matonti got Sarah Lawrence going with an early three-pointer, assisted by Andrew Kim. Furlong was active on both ends, grabbing rebounds and setting up teammates while adding six points of his own. Midway through the half, Aiden Morel came off the bench and made an immediate impact, draining a pair of triples to keep the Gryphons within striking distance. At halftime, Sarah Lawrence trailed 37-33 but had momentum going into the second half.

Coming out of the break, the Gryphons turned up their defensive intensity. Furlong and Dougherty combined for six blocks, disrupting Purchase's inside game. Morel remained a spark off the bench, scoring again from deep and keeping the offense flowing. With under 10 minutes to play, Sarah Lawrence made its move. Burman hit a clutch three to tie the game at 55, and Dougherty followed up with a layup to give the Gryphons the lead. Kim and Lemar Fulmore provided key defensive stops down the stretch, forcing turnovers. The Panthers answered back, taking a small lead once again. In the final minute, Sarah Lawrence had a chance to tie the game, but a contested three-pointer from Matonti fell just short.
