Swimming and Diving Sets 38 Season-Bests at Metros; Women's Team Earns Program-Best Finish

2.18.25

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Sarah Lawrence swimming and diving teams concluded their 2024-2025 seasons with a strong showing at the Metropolitan Swimming Championships, hosted by Rutgers University. The women's swimming and diving team earned a program-best fourth-place finish while the two teams combined for 39 finals appearances in 41 swims as well as 38 season-best performances.

On the men's side, Patrick Rau continued his strong season, making the finals in all three of his individual swims. Rau finished fifth in the 200 butterfly before finishing with a personal best in the 500 freestyle. The men's team finished in eighth place, improving upon it's final finish from last season by eight points.

On the women's side, the team's fourth-place finish was the program's best all-time finish at Mets. The team tallied 789 points, ranking as the highest Skyline school at the meet and defeating fifth-place Mount Saint Mary College by 93 points. The Gryphons continued their streak of strong relay performances, as the 400 freestyle relay took home third place, with Julia Maecker and Kirsten Eads joining Ella Hernan and Josie Laur for the podium finish.  Laur was joined by fellow seniors McKenzie Shaffer-Kay, Eva Guarda-Vazquez and Sophie Glinder as SLC's quartet of soon-to-be graduates were honored at the event's annual senior walk. Glinder took to the pool as SLC's lone diver, earning fourth place in the women's 3-meter diving event with a score of 130.60 and fifth place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 141.95. Not only did the senior set new program bests in both events, but her finish in the 1-meter diving showed a 54.15-point improvement over her finish at the Skyline Championship just last month.

In the team's individual events, Maecker, Eads and Hernan all took home top-three finishes to lead the field, but there were strong swims up and down the roster.
