Women's Basketball Wraps up Season with a Senior Day Victory over Panthers

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team wrapped up their 2024-25 campaign with a win over the Panthers of Purchase College. The Gryphons used a 21-point fourth quarter to cap off a second half where they outscored the Panthers by 13 points.

Notable Performers
  • Gabby Hudson scored a team-high 26 points in addition to five assists
  • Kendall Stephens scored a career-best 21 points while grabbing nine rebounds
  • Kaila Dorch scored nine points while forcing three turnovers

How it Happened

The Gryphons and Panthers would start close, foreshowing a close contest between two teams tied in the Skyline standings. Purchase's Carlye Graff would tie the game at 8-8 with a triple before hitting two more in succession to give the Panthers a 14-11 lead. Graff scored a total of 16 points in the period, including a last-minute triple to give her team a 20-13 advantage after 10 minutes of play. Stephens would step up in the second quarter, scoring eight points, including four straight in the final two minutes of play to cut the Purchase lead to three. Another score by Graff would bring the lead back up to six points heading into the half, as she led all scorers with 20 points.

The third quarter saw SLC's interior presence show up and help the Gryphons cut into the lead. Three-point plays by Stephens and Dorch both brought the energy back to the hosts, each time bringing the team within one possession of the visitors. After another score by Stephens, Hudson would take over. The junior scored six straight points for the Gryphons, tying the game up at 46 points apiece before two minutes of scoreless basketball sent the game into the fourth quarter tied. Dorch and Stephens both scored once again to open the final quarter, but it would be a three-point play by Hudson and a three-pointer by Ariana Spanopoulos that would give the Gryphons an eight-point advantage with six minutes left. Hudson took over next for the Gryphons, scoring the team's next six points before an Audrey Mattison triple gave the team a double-digit lead with three minutes to play. The Panthers cut the lead to seven with 2:31 remaining, but both teams would go scoreless until the 29-second mark as Stephens went 1-for-2 from the line. Hudson would cap the night off with a made free throw to seal the victory and end the season on a high note. The Gryphons (6-19, Skyline 5-15) will look forward to next season as multiple key returners will return to the court next fall. The team will miss Grace Carter, Lauryn Dunn and Christina Reilly, but it will look to keep building with a large cast of impactful returners poised for improvement.
