Men's Volleyball Opens Skyline Play with a Win over Old Westbury

WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team won their 15th straight set on Thursday night, taking down the Panthers of Old Westbury in three sets for their fifth straight victory and first Skyline win of the season.

Notable Performers
  • Nate Davis led all players with 17 kills and added in 12 digs for a double-double
  • Lucas Buckley had another tremendous game, with 12 kills and 14 digs in the win
  • Setter Alex Xie posted his fifth 30+ assist effort of the season, finishing the match with 36 and tying his season-best total

How it Happened

The Gryphons came out strong in the first set, establishing an early lead behind the strong play of Davis and Buckley. Davis led the attack with five kills, while Buckley, Nathan Dreger and Ralph Calle-Schulz contributed a pair of scores each. On defense, the team played flawlessly in the serve-receive game, with Sam Saldarelli and Davis each racking up 5+ receptions with no errors. Nick Fajardo and Xie each contributed an ace, while the latter racked up nine assists as well.
In the second set, the Gryphons continued their strong offensive rhythm. Davis delivered seven more kills, with Buckley contributing four of his own. Dreger remained a defensive anchor, but it would be Aiden Roney and Buckley to combine for a block that sealed the set to give SLC a 2-0 lead in the match. The team's serve reception remained steady, allowing Xie to distribute the ball effectively to the tune of 13 more assists.
The third set proved to be the most dominant for the Gryphons, as they displayed excellent teamwork and execution. Davis delivered another standout performance, with his final five kills of the match and seven digs. Buckley played his best set of the match, racking up six kills and putting up a solo block on the second rally of the set. A kill by Roney gave the team match point and an OW service error would seal the 3-0 victory for SLC and hand them a win in their first Skyline contest of the 2025 season.
