Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Wraps up Spring Break with Home Tri-Match

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team dropped a pair of conference matches on Saturday, falling to Purchase College and St. Joseph's Long Island in three sets each. Saturday's tri-match marked the beginning of a five-game homestand for SLC, bookending a Wednesday-night matchup with UMSV with a pair of Saturday tri-matches.

Notable Performers
  • Nate Davis led the team with 28 total kills and 11 digs
  • Nathan Dreger totaled 13 digs and a trio of aces on the day
  • Alex Xie racked up 50 assists, surpassing the 400-assist mark this season

How it Happened

The Panthers dominated the first set of the first match with an 8-1 run to open the day. The visitors would cruise to a first-set victory despite some late-set kills from Davis, Dreger and company. The second set would be a drastically different set, with the two teams remaining neck-and-neck before the Panthers escaped with a 27-25 victory. The third set would also be a closely contested set, with a late SLC run shut down as the Panthers took the final four points to secure the first match victory of the day.

The second match saw the Gryphons fall behind early, with SJLI taking a 14-4 lead before Dreger and Davis got something going for SLC. Despite the resurgent effort by the Gryphons, the lead would be too much to overcome as the Golden Eagles took a 25-14 victory in the first set. Another early-set lead would put the Golden Eagles in the driver's seat, withstanding kills by Davis, Dreger and Aidan Roney to take the second set. The third and final set of the match would be the most competitive, as seven kills by Davis would not be enough to put the Gryphons ahead, with the visitors claiming a 25-18 victory and returning to Long Island with a pair of conference victories.

Up Next

The Gryphons (8-9, Skyline 3-6) will return to action in Bronxville on Wednesday night, hosting the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent for a 6:00 p.m. matchup before Old Westbury and Ramapo round out a tri-match lineup on Saturday, March 22nd.
