Men's Volleyball Earns 10th Win of the Season, Capping Tri-Match with 3-0 Sweep of Panthers

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball wrapped up their final home tri-match of 2025 on Saturday, taking down Old Westbury in three sets for their tenth win of the season. The Gryphons will now head on the road before returning to Bronxville for senior day on April 2nd.

Notable Performers
  • Nate Davis ended the day with 44 kills and hit .441, including a 25-kill effort against the Panthers
  • Lucas Buckley totaled 17 kills and 11 digs on the day, helping the Gryphons to take down the Panthers for win number 10
  • Alex Xie racked up 67 assists, adding in 16 digs to lead the Gryphons

How it Happened

In match one, the Gryphons battled the Roadrunners, with Davis and Buckley combining for 30 of the team's 37 kills and Xie earning his 10th 30-assist outing of the season. The visitors proved to be too much, taking the first two sets decisively before the Gryphons awakened to take the third. Kills by Davis, Buckly and Nathan Dreger helped the Gryphons establish an early lead as a pair of blocks by Davis/Roney kept them ahead. Fittingly it would be a Buckley/Roney block that sealed the set, forcing a fourth set. SLC would battle once again in the fourth, but a five-point swing midway through the set would give the Roadrunners too much of an advantage. After reaching match point, the visitors would give up three straight points as Xie earned a kill before joining Dreger for a block. Despite the small run, a Ramapo kill would seal the match, giving the visitors their eighth win of the season.

The second match would go to the Gryphons in three, with scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 15-19 giving SLC their program-best 10th win of the season. Davis shined with 25 kills, but the team saw contributions across the board. Buckley and Davis earned important kills down the stretch in set one, while a Dreger/Buckley block and an ace by Dreger helped seal the first-set victory. A 7-0 run midway through the second set would help the Gryphons pull away, as a trio of kills by Davis coupled with four OW errors helped SLC establish a 17-9 lead. Fittingly, another kill by Davis would secure the set victory, putting the hosts one set away from reaching double-digit wins for the first time in program history. The team would once again use a strong mid-set run to pull away, taking six of seven points via aces from both Ralph Calle-Schulz and Dreger to build a lead over the Panthers. An OW error would set up match point before Davis tallied his 25th kill of the match to secure the victory for the Gryphons.
