Pechefsky Whiffs 11 as Softball hosts Lehman for Doubleheader in Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team hosted the Lightning of Lehman College on Wednesday afternoon, falling in both ends of the doubleheader as the Gryphons remain in search of their first 2025 victory.

Notable Performers
  • Shirin Pechefsky tossed nine total innings for SLC, striking out 11 and adding a pair of hits at the plate
  • Isabella Zuniga started off game one, striking out a pair of Lightning batters in one inning of work
  • Malia Rode doubled deep to left center in game two, giving SLC their lone extra-base hit of the day

How it Happened

The Lightning offense was overwhelming in both games, fueled by six homers and 18 hits across the two five-inning contests. Pechefsky and Emma Androne had SLC's two hits in game one before a strong fifth-inning in game two highlighted the team's offensive efforts. The Gryphons threatened to score in the third inning of game two, with back-to-back hit batters and a passed ball putting a pair of Gryphons in scoring position. An inning-ending strikeout would end the threat, sending the Lightning back to bat with a 3-0 lead. Rode's aforementioned double would come in the fourth inning, but it would be the fifth inning where the Gryphons filled the bases, with another hit batter and a pair of singles giving them a scoring opportunity with one out. A strikeout would put the Lightning one out away from a second victory, with Rode stepping up to the plate for the Gryphons. Rode would hit possibly the hardest ball of the day, a line drive down the third base line would be grabbed out of the air by the Lightning, stranding all three Gryphons and sending the visitors back to the Bronx with a pair of victories.
