Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Davis and Men's Volleyball Travels to Top-Ranked Golden Eagles on Wednesday

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team fell to the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's Long Island in straight sets on Wednesday night. SJLI, who consistently leads the conference and flirts with top-25 status, moves to 4-0 in conference play with a trio of 3-0 victories and a 3-1 win over NJCU.

Notable Performers
How it Happened

Davis led the offensive charge, delivering well-placed kills that put Sarah Lawrence on the board. Lucas Buckley contributed with a strong service run, helping the Gryphons build momentum. Midway through the set, Xie set up Davis and Ralph Calle-Schulz for successful attacks, but despite a pair of late aces by junior Aidan Roney, St. Joseph's pulled away to take the set 25-11. In the second set, Buckley, Davis, Dreger and Calle-Schulz delivered scores for the Gryphons, but 11 kills by the Golden Eagles continued a dominant effort as the hosts demonstrated how they frequent the top of the Skyline's standings.

The third set was Sarah Lawrence's strongest, as they kept the score close throughout much of the frame. Davis continued to be a focal point on offense, adding to his kill total with a trio of scores early. A Roney/Davis block midway through the set kept the Gryphons in the match but kills from both Davis and Buckley down the stretch would not be enough to stop the hosts from sweeping the match with a third-set victory.

Up Next

The Gryphons (7-6, Skyline 2-3) will return to action on Saturday as they head to Manhattanville for a tri-match featuring the Valiants and the Bears of St. Joseph's Brooklyn. The Gryphons will look to avenge a loss to the hosting Valiants last week while repeating Monday's victory over the Bears.
