2024-25 Equestrian Season Recap

6.2.25

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence equestrian team put together another impressive run of shows this past season. The Gryphons qualified three riders for IHSA Regionals while putting up eight or more ribbons in three-quarters of their shows and five or more in all eight showings.

Awards and Achievements
The Gryphons saw nine riders earn recognition by the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association for their athletic and academic accomplishments, as Emma Androne, Layne Barr, Victoria Bellonci, Sophie Gaynes, Madison Goodyear-Brown, Maeve Lamson, Leena Mangaldas, Summer Stammely and Elena Wagstaff were all named to the IHSA All-Academic First Team. Gaynes, Mangaldas and Wagstaff were also recipients of the organization's Senior Achievement Awards, while Lamson earned the third-annual Mason E. Phelps Jr. Award.

Top Performances
Layne Barr paced all SLC riders with two blue ribbon performances, taking home the honor in the fall with a strong showing in the introductory flat during the first show of SLC's November 2nd trip to Centenary. Barr later replicated her success in the same event on February 15th, once again at Centenary. Leena Mangaldas also had success on November 2nd, earning a blue ribbon of her own in the Pre-Novice Flat event. Fellow senior Sophie Gaynes was the first Gryphon of the season to earn the honor, doing so in the team's second show after a strong showing in the Novice Flat. Nyah Raposo was the fourth Gryphon to do so, with a strong ride in the Introductory Flat to wrap up the team's fall schedule on November 16th.

2024 Season Recap
The Gryphons had a terrifically consistent year, earning five or more ribbons in each show and qualifying the aforementioned three riders for Regionals. The team started out the season with a seven-ribbon effort at Centenary before a double-digit ribboning at New Paltz. An early-November trip back to Centenary saw the team match their 10-ribbon season-high, doing so in the second show of the day to wrap up an 18-ribbon trip. After a break from mid-November to February, there were no signs of slowing down, as a nine-ribbon effort to kick off the spring season set the tone for the remainder of the year, ending with a trip to IHSA regionals on March 29th.

2025 Season Preview
The Gryphons will graduate four seniors, including two 2025 regional qualifiers, but will return a strong roster of contributors, including Maeve Lamson, Layne Barr and others. The team will look to build off their consistent 2024-25 campaign to reach new heights in 2025-26.
