POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team opened its 2025 campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling 2–0 on the road at Vassar College against a strong Brewers team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament just last season.
The hosts netted both of their goals in the opening half, with Riley McGrath scoring in the 19th and 25th minutes. Despite the early setback, the Gryphons held Vassar scoreless over the final 65 minutes, tightening defensively and competing with energy throughout the match. Sophomore goalkeeper
Bella Vaca anchored the back line with a stellar performance, registering 10 saves gainst a relentless Vassar attack that totaled 32 shots. Her efforts prevented the hosts from opening up a larger gap throughout the remainder of the game.
Offensively, SLC was held in check as the Brewers dominated possession, controlling the ball in their attacking half for just over 45% of the game.
Viktoria Balbin provided the Gryphons' best looks, firing two shots while remaining unable to bring the Gryphons back into the contest.
