BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team opened up their home slate with a decisive 5-1 win over the City College of New York. The Gryphons got four first-half scores to remain firmly in control of the contest despite a last-minute score by the visitors.

The Gryphons wasted no time jumping ahead, as
Viktoria Balbin scored less than three minutes into the match before
Katey Beaver quickly doubled the lead. Beaver struck again in the 14th minute, and
Phoebe Workman added a fourth goal midway through the first half to put SLC firmly in control. Balbin tallied her second goal early in the second half to stretch the advantage to 5–0. CCNY managed a late consolation in the 89th minute, but the Gryphons' dominance was evident throughout, outshooting the Beavers 36–4 and forcing CCNY's goalkeeper into 20 saves.

The Gryphons (1-1) will return to action on Saturday as they travel to take on Swarthmore College in a non-conference bout. The game is slated to start at noon as the Gryphons will look to build off Wednesday night's victory.
