Women's Soccer Draws with Kean after Early Score by Beaver

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team ended Wednesday night's non-conference bout with Kean with a 1-1 draw. The Gryphons held the lead for nearly 85 minutes of game time before a late equalizer by the Cougars forced the tie. The Gryphons will next embark on a three-game road trip before returning to Yonkers on September 24th.

Notable Performers
  • Katey Beaver scored in the third minute for her third goal of the season, giving the Gryphons a lead
  • Lauren Zamora totaled four saves in a scoreless first half while Bella Vaca added four saves of her own in the second half
  • Viktoria Balbin placed continual pressure on Kean's keepers, putting three of her four shots on goal
How it Happened

The Gryphons struck quickly, with Beaver finding the back of the net in just the third minute of play to give SLC an early lead. From there, Sarah Lawrence pressed forward with several dangerous chances, as Stella Sturgill, Hannah Chaffin, and Viktoria Balbin each tested the Kean goalkeeper, but Madison Gesualdo and Kaitlyn Siino combined to keep the Gryphons from adding to their advantage. On the other end, SLC goalkeeper Lauren Zamora made multiple saves in the first half, while Bella Vaca took over in the second half and continued to deny the Cougars, including a pair of key stops during sustained pressure. Despite Sarah Lawrence's defensive resilience, Kean found the equalizer late in the match, when Carly Gleason scored in the 88th minute off an assist from Kaydence Oakley to tie the contest. Both teams exchanged chances down the stretch, but the Gryphons held on to secure the draw.

Up Next

The Gryphons (1-2-1) will return to action on Saturday, September 13th as they head to Stevens for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference bout with the Ducks. Saturday's game will be the first of three straight contests on the road for SLC, who will next return to Fleming Field on September 24th against Mount Saint Mary College in their 2025 Skyline opener.
