HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Sarah Lawrence women's soccer team fell to the Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. The Gryphons and Ducks faced off for the first time, as SLC continued their demanding non-conference schedule that also features a pair of ranked teams and one receiving votes.
Notable Performers
- Goalkeeper Bella Vaca made five saves while spending all 90 minutes in goal
- Katey Beaver put the team's lone shot on goal in the 78th minute
How it Happened
The Gryphons battled evenly through much of the first half, generating looks from Emma Mangan and Phoebe Workman, while goalkeeper Bella Vaca made several stops to keep the match scoreless early. Stevens finally broke through in the 39th minute when Sarah Wnorowski scored off an assist from Alina Friz, giving the Ducks a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. Stevens doubled its advantage almost immediately after the break, with Alana Odom finding the net just four seconds into the second half to make it 2–0. From there, Sarah Lawrence worked to fight back, with Katey Beaver forcing a save and the Gryphons winning a late corner, but they couldn't break through against a strong Ducks back line. Vaca finished with multiple second-half saves, including key stops on Sophia Murphy and Isabelle Knott to keep SLC within reach, but the Gryphons were unable to find a late spark.
