BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's tennis team defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay 7-0 on Tuesday night, dropping just eight games on the night. The Gryphons swept all three doubles matchups by a combined 18-1 mark before taking all six singles battles by winning 68 of the 75 total games.
In doubles play, the Gryphons felt little resistance from the visitors, with
Viha Shah and
Zoe Kovac shutting out their opponents in the second flight before
Colleen Coughlin and Serafina Panucci did the same in the third. The toughest task for the Gryphons in doubles play was in the first flight, where
Neomi Spellman and
Josephine Jackson teamed up to win 6-1 and send the Gryphons to singles play with all of the momentum. Spellman, Jackson, Kovac, Shah and Panucci all added to their night with singles victories, as Kovac and Shah both won in straight 6-0 sets while Jackson and Panucci each dropped just a single game.
Margaret Moon stepped in at four singles and continued the dominant outing for the Gryphons with a 6-1, 6-0 victory while Spellman's 6-1, 6-3 win in the first flight proved to be the toughest test for the Gryphons, but secured the shutout victory.
