NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's soccer team battled the Knights of Mount Saint Mary through 80 minutes of scoreless soccer before the hosts broke through with a score in the 82nd minute to defeat the Gryphons. The team now sits at 0-1-1 in conference play after last weekend's tie with Farmingdale State and will look to add a win this Saturday against Mount Saint Vincent.
Notable Performers
- Elijah Shohat played over 63 minutes in goal for SLC, making four saves on five attempts
- Jonah Zalis played the first 22 minutes of the contest, making a save on his lone attempt
- Joseph Vaca played the final three minutes and change in goal for the Gryphons
How it Happened
In a tightly contested first half, both sides struggled to generate clear scoring chances, with Zalis and Shohat combining for multiple saves to keep the match level. Peter Miles created SLC's best look of the opening frame with a shot on target in the 44th minute, but Knights goalkeeper Noah Horn came up with the stop to send the teams into halftime scoreless.
The Gryphons continued to push after the break, earning early corners and looks from Trent Paleka and Connor Saul, but couldn't find the back of the net. Shohat turned away several chances on the other end to keep the contest deadlocked until the 82nd minute, when Quinn Tynan scored the game's only goal for the Knights. Sarah Lawrence pressed late with shots from Leon Bronshvag and Benjamin Berkson, yet Horn denied both attempts to preserve the shutout.
