BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence College Athletics is excited to announce the addition of
Martin Rather as the school's next Head Women's Basketball Coach. Rather joins the Gryphons after most-recently leading the Lesley University Women's Basketball Program.
"We are thrilled to welcome Martin Rather as the new head coach of our women's basketball program at Sarah Lawrence College." Said Kristin Maile, Director of Athletics. "Martin brings a rare combination of academic rigor and recruiting experience that aligns seamlessly with our mission. As a lawyer and mentor, he is deeply committed to empowering high-achieving student-athletes to pursue ambitious academic and professional goals beyond graduation. His commitment to holistic development, both on and off the court, makes him an outstanding fit to lead our program forward."
In two years with Lesley University, Rather led the program to its first-ever North Atlantic Conference (NAC) postseason appearance and its first NAC postseason victory. He also brought in immediate contributors for the Lynx via both the transfer portal and first-year recruiting. Rather was recognized for his recruiting efforts by being named Lesley's recruiting coordinator after his success.
Respected Division I coach Scott Pera, who previously led the men's basketball program at Rice University and currently serves as the General Manager for Penn State Men's Basketball, lauded the hire, saying "Sarah Lawrence College has made an outstanding hire in Martin Rather. He will be a valuable addition to the entire college community and be a tremendous leader for the young women he will be coaching. His positive attitude and enthusiasm will carry over to the teams he coaches and the people that support the program. He is also a terrific tactician and student of the game. I can't wait to watch where he takes this program in the coming years."
Martin and the women's basketball program will take to the court for their regular-season opener on November 7th as they host Brooklyn College at the Campbell Sports Center in Bronxville.
