BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Skyline conference announced its second weekly awards report on Monday afternoon, naming a trio of Gryphons as recipients of awards. From the women's cross country team, a rookie of the week, and from each soccer team, a member of the weekly honor roll.
Senior runner Perry Yun impressed in her second career race, finishing 11th overall and with the second-best time of all Skyline runners to earn the women's cross country's rookie of the week award. Yun's time of 17:44.3 paced all SLC runners as the team cruised to a second-place finish at the Purchase Invitational, an event that the team won just last year. The Gryphons will return to action next on Saturday, September 20th as they head to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. for the Fred Pavlich Invitational hosted by Bard College.
On the pitch, it was a duo of goal-scorers that earned honor roll status for the Gryphons. Peter Miles scored three goals and registered an assist as SLC went 1-0-1 on the week, kickstarting an offensive outburst in the team's 4-1 win against Brooklyn College by scoring twice. The senior then added another score to put the team up 1-0 over Albertus Magnus before assisting fellow senior Morris Monaco Collins for the team's second goal of the day. Miles and the Gryphons return to action on Monday, September 8th as they welcome Medgar Evers to Fleming Field for another non-conference battle.
Women's soccer's Viktoria Balbin also registered a brace for the Gryphons last week, helping the team to a 5-1 win over CCNY. The senior, who is a frequent flyer in the program's record books already, will look to help the Grpyhons return to the win column as they host Kean University on Wednesday night in Yonkers. The Gryphons and Cougars will face off at 7:00 p.m. at Fleming Field in the team's second home contest of 2025.
