BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's swimming team wrapped up another impressive regular season with a dominant showing against Hunter College. The Gryphons swept the Hawks in the day's two relay events while winning six of the meet's nine individual events. The team will look to ride the momentum from Saturday's win into next weekend's Skyline Championships.
The day started off with a 200 medley relay victory as the team of
Ella Hernan,
Kirsten Eads,
Hannah Drum and
Amelie Burg touched the wall first with a time of 2:07.59. The individual events continued that momentum, with a second-place swim by
Ava Greengrass in the 1650 freestyle that marked the fifth best time in the event in program history.
Jocelyn Engel finished right behind Greengrass in third place to give SLC a pair of scorers in the event. The first individual win came in event number three, as
Amelie Burg led a trio of top-placing Gryphons in the 200 freestyle. Burg's time of 2:10.09 paced the field while
Cordelia Bay and
Krista Burgess joined the sophomore on the podium.
Ella Hernan and Allie Abemayor continued the strong swims, placing second and fifth respectively in the 50 freestlye as the senior duo took to the Campbell Sports Center Pool for the final time in an official meet. Drum registered the next SLC win in the 200 I.M. while teammate
Aubrey Rosser finished two spots behind the junior with a third-place time of 2:38.76.Â
Eads continued a strong sophomore campaign with a win in the 100 butterfly, followed by first year
Cordelia Bay who gave the Gryphons the top two finishers in the event. A trio of SLC swimmers placed in the 100 freestyle as Burg, Drum and Abemayor placed second, third and sixth respectively, adding to the already-strong day for the hosts. The final three individual events were won by the Gryphons, with Hernan,
Julia Maecker and Bay all earning victories in the final home meet of the season. Hernan was victorious in the 100 backstroke while Burgess followed closely in third, Maecker led a trio of top-placing Gryphons in the 500 freestyle as Rosser and Greengrass followed suit and Bay paced the field in the 100 backstroke just ahead of Eads. The final scoring event of the day was the 200 freestyle relay, as Maecker, Burgess, Rosser and Greengrass touched the wall first.
