THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Maritime College Saturday, October 3 at Reinhart Field.
The Gryphons moved to 3-4-4 overall and 1-2-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Maritime finished the afternoon at 2-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference action.
Maritime opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime. The Gryphons entered the break trailing despite holding Maritime to just two first-half shots.
Maritime doubled its lead early in the second half when Carson Sadler converted in the 55th minute, putting Sarah Lawrence in a 2-0 hole.
The Gryphons responded quickly.
In the 61st minute,
Ivan Pudelka put Sarah Lawrence on the board, splitting the Maritime defense before sending a low shot past the goalkeeper.
Dylan Peavoy was credited with the assist.
Sarah Lawrence continued to apply pressure as the second half progressed, eventually finding the equalizer with less than five minutes remaining.
In the 86th minute, Diaz pounced on a rebound following a save and fired home his team-leading fifth goal of the season to bring the match level at 2-2.
Rhys Roberts earned the assist on the equalizing goal.
The Gryphons controlled much of the second half, outshooting Maritime 12-14 after the break and putting six of their 12 second-half attempts on target. Sarah Lawrence finished with a 15-16 disadvantage in shots but held a 7-8 margin in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper
Jonah Zalis came up with seven saves for the Gryphons, including six in the second half, helping Sarah Lawrence preserve the draw.
Diaz and Pudelka finished the afternoon with a goal, while Roberts and Peavoy each recorded an assist.
The Gryphons return to action on Tuesday, October 6 for a 4:30 p.m. Skyline Conference matchup at Manhattanville.
