How it Happened
The Gryphons got going early, with Burman and
Eamon Kelly combining for 17 of the team's first 19 points as the hosts took an early 19-10 advantage. Fellow seniors
John Kairouz and
Kyle Jefferson joined in the scoring effort, putting the team up by double-digits after just eight minutes of play. Burman continued to strike from distance while
Gabe Downes,
Andrew Kim and Dougherty all scored from inside to keep the Gryphons ahead.
Thomas Matonti followed Burman's lead, connecting from deep in the final few minutes while a Kim-to-Dougherty connection wrapped up the team's scoring for the half as owners of a 14-point lead. Kelly and Burman started the second half the same way they started the game, with both connecting from the field and Burman hitting his fifth triple of the day to put SLC up 49-33. The Panthers kept within striking distance, but back-to-back-to-back triples from Dougherty, Kairouz and Jefferson catapulted the Gryphons to a 21-point lead. Elovitz-Fields immediately made an impact upon entering the game, connecting from within the arc, including some well-contested baskets.
Gavin Wright,
Mason Meyers and
Derek Hickman all created PC turnovers, with Wright scoring inside and
Elias Flaim benefitting from the steals via Meyers and Hickman. The Gryphons held on for a comfortable 18-point victory and secured a home playoff game for the second season in a row.
