Men's Volleyball Opens Skyline Play with a Road Win over Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball team started the 2026 Skyline season with a win on Tuesday night, taking down Yeshiva University in straight sets. The Gryphons took down the Maccabees with set scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-18 to move to 1-0 in Skyline play.

Notable Performers
  • Jack Cahill led the team with 15 kills and added 11 digs
  • Alex Xie totaled 28 assists in addition to three kills and two aces
  • Mikel Miller added seven kills and three blocks for the Gryphons
How it Happened

The Gryphons jumped ahead early thanks to kills from Xie and Cahill along with a pair of Aidan Roney aces, setting the tone for the evening. Mateusz Karpow and the Maccabees remained on the hips of the visitors, even taking a 9-7 lead before the Gryphons responded to tie the set up at 11 points apiece. The hosts responded with a 16-13 lead before a block by Miller, an ace by Xie and a Cahill kill tied the set up once again. Karpow responded for YU along with an SLC error to put the hosts back on top, but the next five points went to the Gryphons and an Ethan Look kill capped the run and put the visitors ahead 21-18. Back-to-back YU kills threatened to tie the game once again, but the Gryphons answered with four straight points, coupling a pair of kills by Jackson Perhaes with two Miller aces to take a first-set victory. The second set was a similar story, with Yeshiva taking an early lead as the teams remained close, using a mid-set run to claim an 11-8 advantage. The Gryphons capitalized on YU errors to draw closer to the hosts, but it was a four-point swing for SLC that featured kills from Cahill and Roney which put the team ahead 19-16. The Maccabees drew the set even at 20 points apiece, but once again, a late-set run by SLC brought the Gryphons a 2-0 match lead, with kills and blocks from both Cahill and Miller pushing the team to a 25-22 win.

The third set was the most dominant showing by the Gryphons, with the mid-set run going in favor of the visitors thanks to a Roney/Perhaes block and a Cahill ace. The Gryphons led 12-7 after the run, continuing to benefit from YU errors and getting aces from both Look and Roney to take a 20-11 lead and get an early start back to Bronxville. The Maccabees took six of the next eight points to threaten a fourth set, but a Perhaes kill stopped the run and a score by Miller gave the team match point before a YU error sealed the win.
