FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team fell to the Farmingdale State Rams on Wednesday night by a score of 74-85. The Gryphons got 40 points from
Chris Dougherty and
Andrew Kim, but a near 60% shooting half to start the game by the Rams propelled the hosts to the victory.
Notable Performers
- Dougherty led all players with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and connecting on four triples
- Kim added 17 points and barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds
- Eamon Kelly added 12 points along with six rebounds and four assists
How it Happened
The game started with a 5-0 Farmingdale run, but Dougherty and Kelly got things going, each connecting from distance to bring the team within two points. Dougherty found
Thomas Matonti for a triple as the first three SLC scores of the night came from long range. The Rams stayed ahead by a small gap, but a
Noah Elovitz-Fields steal turned into another Matonti three-pointer minutes later and tied the game at 16 points apiece. The Rams jumped back ahead, with
Braden Burman hitting from range to cut the lead to one before a 14-2 run by the hosts opened up a double-digit lead. Dougherty and Burman converted from the field to break the streak while
Gabe Downes connected from deep and from the line to bring the Gryphons back within single digits. The Rams would not let the visitors get any closer, hitting two triples in response and going into the break with a 16-point advantage after three minutes of scoreless basketball to end the half.
Kelly opened the second half with a triple and another score after a steal by Kim to bring the Gryphons back within striking distance. The Rams immediately erased the progress made by the senior, stringing together five points to go back up by 16. The hosts remained ahead by double digits throughout the second half, leading by as many as 18 before a late surge brought the Gryphons within eleven. Late scores by Kelly and Dougherty, including a last-second make by the former, would not be enough to bridge the gap as the Rams emerged victorious.
