How it Happened
The Gryphons jumped ahead by a score of 7-2 early in the first set thanks to a pair of solo blocks by Miller and kills from both Cahill and
Jackson Perhaes. Kills by the duo and
Aidan Roney continued to keep the team ahead while Perhaes also contributed an ace to put the team up 16-9 midway through the set. A late 6-2 push by the visitors brought the Maccabees within four, but a kill by Miller and another Perhaes ace closed out the set. The Maccabees stormed back for a second-set victory thanks to an early 4-1 lead that put them ahead. The Gryphons drew the match to a tie midway through the set, before the teams traded points back-and-forth for eight rallies. The Maccabees took a 5-0 run late to jump back ahead and sealed the set with a solo block to even the match. Despite the setback, the Gryphons controlled the final two sets, closing out set three on an 8-2 run before a strong start to the fourth set put SLC up 24-15. The visitors delayed the SLC win with four straight points, but a kill from Miller closed out the set and the match, giving the Gryphons a fifth Skyline victory.
