How it Happened
The Dolphins took an early lead in the first set before a mid-set run by SLC, fueled by a pair of Cahill kills and Roney aces, put the visitors on top by a score of 13-11. The Dolphins would match each SLC score down the stretch, pulling ahead and securing the set with a Tyler Hanna kill to take an early lead. A plethora of early UMSV errors put the Gryphons ahead 13-4 in the second set as the team looked to tie the match up early. The Dolphins would attempt to get back into the match, but a Roney solo block and an
Ethan Look kill helped the Gryphons remain in control. A service error by the hosts secured a 25-16 victory for the Gryphons as the match returned to a stalemate. The Gryphons took an early third-set lead before a five-point run by the Dolphins returned the lead to the hosts with an 8-5 scoreline. The teams remained close until another five-point swing by the hosts opened up a seven-point advantage. A late
Jackson Perhaes kill would delay the set victory, but the hosts would hold on for a set victory that put them ahead 2-1. The Gryphons took a brief lead in the fourth set, but another mid-set UMSV run returned the advantage to the hosts. Cahill, Roney and
Mikel Miller tallied late-set kills, but the Dolphins ended the set with a kill to claim a 3-1 match victory.
