Softball Kicks Off Spring Break Trip with Doubleheader against Bison in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team kicked off a spring break road trip with a doubleheader against Gallaudet University on Sunday, March 8th. The Gryphons dropped both games to the hosting Bison, by scores of 0-9 and 0-8. The team will wrap up their road trip against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Monday afternoon.

Notable Performers
  • Caileigh Koenig threw six innings for SLC, forcing eight groundouts and striking out four batters
  • Kyra Johnsen threw the other 2.1 innings for the Gryphons, striking out a pair
  • Malia Rode reached base in each game, stealing third base in game one
How it Happened

The Gryphons would be stifled in game one, with Rode reaching on an error in the second, before advancing to third via a stolen base, and Miriam Kanter-Goodell reaching on a hit-by-pitch in the third. The Bison allowed only those two baserunners, as a 12-strikeout performance by Lacey Drolsbaugh gave the hosts their first win of the young season. Drolsbaugh returned to the mound for game two, but the Gryphons got to the pitcher in the first, with Isabella Boissonnault and Koenig each reaching via walks before advancing to second and third via a wild pitch with two outs. A strikeout would end the inning and keep the score tied at zero heading into the bottom half of the first. The Bison poured in four runs in the bottom of the frame and the Bison's starter continued to shut down SLC. Kanter-Goodell reached on an error and Rode walked, but both would be stranded as the Bison took a second straight shutout victory.

Up Next

The Gryphons (0-4) will return to action on Monday as they wrap up the trip with a doubleheader against Notre Dame of Maryland University. The Gryphons and Gators will face off at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. with both teams looking for their first victory of 2026.
