Softball Wraps up 2026 Season on Saturday against Dolphins

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team wrapped up the 2026 season with a Senior Day doubleheader against Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Gryphons and Dolphins battled in a close 4-0 contest to wrap up the day after a shutout win by the visitors in game one.

Notable Performers
  • Shirin Pechefsky started game one, throwing all five innings and striking out five batters
  • Caileigh Koenig threw five innings in game two, striking out a pair

How it Happened

The Dolphins jumped ahead early, plating two runs on a drive to right field by Emma Capozucca, but a pair of strikeouts by Pechefsky allowed the Gryphons to escape with no further damage. The Gryphons went down in order in the home half of the frame in response, with the Dolphins returning to bat and looking to add to their lead. The visitors tacked on two more, but the Gryphons returned to the plate in the bottom of the second, looking to close the gap. A leadoff single by Koenig gave the Gryphons a baserunner before Isabella Boissonnault reached base to put a pair on. The Gryphons would strand a pair as the Dolphins ended the threat, returning to bat and adding four more runs thanks to a three-run homer from Carmen Henderson. The visitors added two more scores in the fourth and fifth to hold on for a shutout victory.

The Dolphins got ahead 1-0 in game one before the hosts returned to bat for the first time in game two. The Gryphons got Johnsen on base as the junior singled to right before Rode drove one up the middle to put a pair of runners on the basepaths. Koenig drove one to deep center, muffed by UMSV's fielder, but Johsen was cut down at the plate, leaving a pair of runners on base with one out. The team went down quietly throughout the remainder of the inning as the Dolphins kept a 1-0 lead. Koenig sat down the visitors in order in the second, bringing the Gryphons back to the plate trailing by one. Unfortunately, UMSV's Grace Laukkanen struck out the side to keep the Dolphins ahead, returning the visitors to bat. The visitors added two more scores in the third inning and another in the fourth, but the remainder of the game would be scoreless, as it went the distance before UMSV returned to Riverdale with a pair of conference victories.
