BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The Sarah Lawrence College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Lehman College on Thursday, September 10, as the Gryphons picked up two doubles wins and four singles victories at home.
Sarah Lawrence opened the match by taking the doubles point. Neomi Spellman and Josephine Jackson set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory over Gabriela Vargas and Pat Santiago-Montes.
At No. 3 doubles, Lillian Rodenhizer and Carolina Gherardi followed with a 6-4 win over Ndaye (Awa) Ndiaye and Mamie Kolley. Sarah Lawrence fell at No. 2, where Serafina Panuccio and Isabelle Ng dropped the match to Elizabeth Nlemchukwu and Fernanda Navarrete, 6-2.
The Gryphons continued their strong play in singles competition, collecting four additional victories to secure the team win.
At No. 2 singles, Spellman defeated Nlemchukwu, 6-4, 6-1, while Panuccio earned a hard-fought victory at No. 3 singles, edging Navarrete, 6-3, 7-6, and a 7-3 tiebreaker.
Lehman picked up wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, while the No. 1 singles match between Jackson and Vargas ended with a win by retirement for Sarah Lawrence.
The Gryphons return to action on Thursday, September 17 as they head to Jamaica, N.Y. to take on York College (N.Y.) in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
