Gryphons Fall in Overtime 2-1 to Berkeley College

YONKERS, NY - October 12, 2011

In persistent rain and rising winds, the Gryphons lost to Berkley College in overtime Thursday night, after "some of the best play we've had, and I mean ever," Co-Head Coach Hassan Turner said just minutes after the loss.
In the 28th minute of play, Berkeley's Daisel Hwaki struck first, luring Sarah Lawrence Goalie Elliot Warkus out of goal and sinking a shot deep in the net behind him.
The Gryphons fought back and with a minute left in the first half answered with a goal of their own off the foot of Phil Naess.
Although there were a number of close calls, such Gryphon's Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy)'s shot that reverberated off the top bar of Berkeley's goal in the first half, both teams held the other to one goal a piece.
At the horn with 1-1 still on the board, the teams went into overtime with neither scoring in the first ten-minute round. In the second ten-minute round of overtime, Berkeley's Joel Yawli planted a goal at 6:48 that ended the Gryphons hope for victory.
Although Sarah Lawrence was defeated, the team and coaches were not. Turner said of his team, "That's exactly the way we trained them. It was well-executed. You can't do better than it."
