GLEN ISLAND, N.Y.—In the team's first race of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's crew competed at the 2012 Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association Fall Championship Regatta on Sunday.
Competing against varsity crews from Fordham University and Manhattan College, Sarah Lawrence's young boat took third place in its men's quad race.
With tail winds averaging 15-20 mph, the Gryphons did well to navigate the pre-storm conditions, agitated by the impending arrival of then-Hurricane Sandy. Fordham's crew pulled away by a comfortable margin, while Manhattan narrowly beat out the Green and White for second place.
The race marked the college debut for
Zach Lusk (Northborough, Mass., Algonquin Regional) and
Alec Lynch (Santa Fe, N.M., Cleveland). Sophomore
Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass., Pittsfield) rowed stroke, while senior
Alexander Skillman (Katonah, N.Y., John Jay) held the bow seat and
Michael Feinberg (Los Angeles, Calif., Milken Community) directed the boat as coxswain.
With Sunday's Dowling College Alumni Cup Regatta canceled, Sarah Lawrence men's crew is on hiatus until the spring season. The Gryphons return to the water for practice in February and resume competition in March.
