Women's Fours Take Second at Dowling Invitational

April 28, 2012 - Oakdale, NY

Both the Novice and Varsity Women's Four boats took second place in their respective races on Saturday, April 28, as the Gryphons took to Oakdale, NY, to compete in the Dowling College Spring Invitational.

Notable races were the Women's Novice Four--which although competing in just a two-boat final, lost first place by mere seconds, reported Head Coach Jennifer Sherman--and a Gryphons Women's Pair, who, as the only women's pair to compete, rowed in an exhibition race against male rowers.

"[The Women's Pair] did a fine job hanging in there with the guys," Sherman said.

In the varsity races, "the women's varsity four did an outstanding job in their race holding off the competition and securing second place with open water," Sherman said, singling out one Gryphon for special recognition.

"Kudos also to first year coxswain Connor Miller (/), who has stepped into the role and quickly gotten up to speed leading his racers," Sherman said.

Next up for Gryphons Rowing will be the 20th Annual New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships on May 5-6 in Whitney Point, NY.
