BRONXVILLE, N.Y.–Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming split its dual meets on Friday, defeating Bard College, 52-36, while falling to Purchase College, 59-36, at Campbell Sports Center pool.
Sarah Lawrence (2-4) began the meet by winning the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.67. Rookie
Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore.) led the event, followed by sophomore
Eben Woodward (Los Angeles, Calif., Notre Dame), first-year swimmer
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas, Aledo), and graduate student
Ned Bandera-Duplantier (Houston, Texas, Westfield).
Rudd recorded the Gryphons' only school record of the day as he broke his own mark in the 100 yard backstroke. He touched the wall in 1:13.24 to earn his second school record of the week, having broken the 1000 freestyle record on Wednesday.
Martinez returned to triumph in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.45. He then took first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a stellar mark of 54.13.
Bandera-Duplantier had another fine day in the sprints, winning the 50 yard freestyle (27.64) and leading the Gryphons in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.94).
Woodward helped out the scoring with a runner-up finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:21.06.
In the evening's other meet, Purchase (3-5) defeated Bard (0-3) by a margin of 55-37.
After the winter break, Sarah Lawrence's men take to their home pool one more time, squaring off against The College at Old Westbury on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. The Gryphons then race in two more meets leading up to the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships in February.
