Men's Swimming Edged by Brooklyn

Meet Results

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—In the team's final dual meet of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming fell to host Brooklyn College by a 106-98 margin on Saturday. In a season that saw the Gryphon men earn the program's first dual-meet victory, the Green and White finished the season with a 2-6 dual record.

Sarah Lawrence took an early lead with a victory in the 400 yard medley relay. Rookies Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore.) and Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas, Aledo) teamed with sophomore Eben Woodward (Los Angeles, Calif., Notre Dame) and graduate student Ned Bandera-Duplantier (Houston, Texas, Westfield) to set a new school record in the event, posting a time of 4:30.47.

Martinez added the Gryphons' next win in the 200 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:52.03. Later in the meet, he picked up a third victory, winning the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54.48 seconds.

Bandera-Duplantier also came away as a three-event winner. In addition to the relay, the sprinter won the 50 yard freestyle by a margin of more than 1.4 seconds with his swim of 26.62 seconds. The Gryphon also won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.35, picking up the win by 0.37 second.

Woodward also notched an individual win in the 100 yard breaststoke. He took top points for a swim of 1:19.99 in the event.

Though Brooklyn College (4-4) only won six events, the Bulldogs picked up enough team points to clinch their second-straight dual victory. Kevin Barros (Brooklyn, N.Y., Fort Hamilton), Antonio Gaspar (Brooklyn, N.Y., Fort Hamilton) and Wilson Lee (Brooklyn, N.Y., New Utrecht) each earned a pair of wins for the Bulldogs.

In the day's final event, first-year swimmers Paul Latislaw (Van Nuys, Calif., CHAMPS Charter) and Nicolo Filice (Berkeley, Calif., Maybeck), sophomore Michael Turadek (Bronx, N.Y., HS for Environmental Studies), and senior Alexander Skillman (Katonah, N.Y., John Jay) rounded out the scoring with top marks in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Sarah Lawrence will swim at two invitational meets to round out the season. The Gryphons head to the Vassar Invitational on Feb. 9 before concluding the year at the 2013 UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca, N.Y., February 20-23.
