THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—In the team's first games of the 2013-14 season, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball fell in a pair of contests at the Maritime College Admiral's Classic at Riesenberg Gymnasium. The Gryphons lost to the host Privateers, 82-52, on Friday before succumbing to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 71-61, on Saturday.

In Friday's season opener, Sarah Lawrence (0-2) fell behind early when Maritime (1-0) broke open a 14-2 lead after five minutes of play. SLC bounced back when a pair of three-pointers by Nikos Efstratudakis (London, Ontario/American Community School of Athens) and seven-straight points by Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) cut the deficit to 19-17.

Maritime responded with a 12-2 scoring run and despite 17 first-half points by Radosavljevic, the Privateers held a 41-28 advantage at halftime.

The second half saw the Maritime defense keep the Gryphons in check. SLC suffered a five-minute scoring drought while Maritime went ahead 56-34. The Privateers kept up the offensive pressure and cruised to the 82-52 victory.

SLC's Radosavljevic posted a double-double in his collegiate debut, racking up 22 points and 16 rebounds. Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) contributed eight points, while Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) pitched in seven points and nine rebounds.

Maritime's T'Vaughn Gibson piled up 36 points, while Sean Corley (13 points) and Brendon Halligan (10 points) also reached double figures.

On Saturday, Sarah Lawrence squared off against the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1-1).  An early three-point basket by sophomore Josh Niebloom (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och Academy) gave the Gryphons their first lead of the season. Halfway through the first half, USMMA led by six at 20-14, but SLC reeled in the Mariners to tie the game at 20-20.

SLC got into foul trouble in the first period, as the Gryphons were whistled 11 times to only five Mariner fouls. USMMA's seven points at the charity stripe contributed to an eight-point halftime lead for King's Point, 39-31.

The Mariners accrued their largest lead of the game, 52-38, by holding the Gryphons to just five points in nearly 10 minutes of play. Twelve second-half points by Gilleran cut the deficit to eight at 56-48, but USMMA was able to hold off the charge and preserve a 71-61 win.

Rookie Gilleran earned his first career double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. O'Connell tallied 16 points and eight rebounds, followed by Radosavljevic with nine points and Niko Yuvienco (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) with eight points.

USMMA's Nick Sergio led all players with 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Matthew Miller scored 16 points, and Andrew Williams added 10 points; Danny Collins led all players with 16 rebounds.

Sarah Lawrence travels to Webb Institute on Monday. On Friday, the Gryphons take to their home court for the first time in a Homecoming showdown against Pratt Institute at 7:30 p.m.
