GLEN COVE, N.Y.—Earning the team's first win of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball trounced Webb Institute, 74-39, in a non-conference game on Monday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-2) came out firing, as eight different Gryphons tallied points in the first half. Rookie
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) led the team with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field, while classmate
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) also totaled 10 points in the first 20 minutes of his collegiate career. The Green and White held a dominant 39-14 lead over Webb (0-4) heading into halftime.
In the second half, reigning Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week
Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) emerged as SLC's hot shooter. The first-year player sank half the team's field goals to rack up 18 second-half points.
While Webb showed improvement with 21 points in the period, the Gryphons had little trouble as they cruised to the 74-39 win.
In addition to notching their first victory of the 2013-14 season, the Gryphons recorded the team's highest scoring total since a 77-70 win over Pratt Institute on Feb. 10, 2011.
Radosavljevic totaled a season-high 20 points in the game with eight rebounds; after three games, he is averaging 17.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Rocheleau rounded out his debut with 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Gilleran also finished in double figures with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Beneath the basket,
Niels Kjer (Manila, Philippines/Brent International School Manila) collected 12 rebounds, including eight defensive boards. Rookie guards
Niko Yuvienco (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) and
Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) showed defensive prowess with five steals apiece.
Sarah Lawrence returns to Bronxville on Friday for the team's annual Homecoming game. The Gryphons will host Pratt at 7:30 p.m. at Campbell Sports Center.
