ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—In the team's final meet of 2013, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming picked up a win over Bard College (2-2), 103-72, at Stevenson Athletic Center on Saturday.
With the fall semester in the books, Sarah Lawrence (4-2) has clinched its first winning season in program history. After picking up the program's first dual win in 2012-13 and finishing that season at 2-6, the Gryphons now stand two meets above .500 with only one dual scheduled for the spring semester (at Staten Island on Jan. 25).
SLC collected its first points with a win in the 200 yard medley relay.
Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)),
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo),
Doug Rubenstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton) and
Cameron Rudd (Portland, Ore./Portland Community College) cruised to a win in 1:55.89.
After
Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) finished runner-up in the 1000 yard freestyle (15:14.33), Martinez added another win for the Green and White, winning the 200 free in 1:55.05.
The Gyphons posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free, with Rubenstein leading the way (25.80) followed by Rudd (27.92) and
Michael Turadek (Bronx, N.Y./HS for Environmental Studies) (28.22).
Chu (2:14.64) picked up a win in the 200 yard individual medley, while
Nick Ransom (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) took third place with a personal best of 2:49.70. Martinez notched the team's fourth straight win by touching the wall first in the 100 yard butterfly (56.99).
The 100 free saw Rubenstein, Turadek and
Luc Mitchell (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) score points for SLC, while Rudd and Warkus placed in the 100 yard backstroke. In the 500 free, Mitchell scored four more points with a runner-up showing.
Chu (1:07.94) and Ransom (1:25.40) increased the Sarah Lawrence lead with a first and third-place finish in the day's final individual event, the 100 yard breaststroke.
Gryphons Turadek, Warkus, Ransom and
Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) concluded the day with a win in the 200 yard free relay (1:57.05).
Sarah Lawrence returns to action with a visit to College of Staten Island in January. The Gryphons will then swim at the Vassar Invitational in February before concluding the season at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, February 19-23.
