GLEN ISLAND, N.Y.—In the team's first races of the 2013 season, Sarah Lawrence College women's crew squared off against Iona College in two days of racing on the Long Island Sound near Glen Island Park on Saturday and Sunday.

In both races, the Gaels prevailed as the winners, but the Gryphons showed promise in their new eight-woman boat. Sunday's row proved to be the better of the two, despite tougher weather conditions. Despite a stronger wind and choppier water, the Green and White improved their time and had some good strokes in only their second day on the water.

Sarah Lawrence will face Iona once more on Wednesday, when the teams complete their three-race series at Glen Island at 3:30 p.m.
