Men's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season with Win

GLEN COVE, N.Y.—In the team's regular-season finale, Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball defeated Webb Institute, 3-0, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference match on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Gryphons' conference ledger levels out to 3-3 on the season, securing the No. 3 seed in the upcoming HVMAC Championship tournament.

In the opening set, six-time HVMAC Player of the Week Harrison Holmes (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Webb School) notched six of the Gryphons' 13 kills, paving the way for the Green and White. Sophomore Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India, Inventure Academy) added three kills for Sarah Lawrence (6-16, 3-3 HVMAC) as SLC won the set, 25-18.

Holmes pounded away another half-dozen kills in the second set, while rookie opposite Chris Manfugas (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) tallied four kills, helping Sarah Lawrence to a 25-16 win.

Webb (0-9, 0-6 HVMAC) tried to assemble a rally in the third set, but four more Holmes kills and only two Gryphon attack errors settled the match with a 25-18 set.

Holmes' 16 kills on the day came against no errors with an attack percentage of .571. Pujari followed with seven kills and Manfugas finished with six.

Setter Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M., Idyllwild Arts Academy) assisted on 27 assists and completed the double-double by contributing 11 digs. Pujari had 13 digs, while libero Riley Smith (West Linn, Ore., Palo Alto (Calif.)) notched 12 and Manfugas reached double figures with 10. Senior Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass., Pittsfield) also had a notable performance, landing all three of his attempted attacks.

Sarah Lawrence concludes the season at the 2013 HVMAC Volleyball Championship, hosted by Yeshiva University on Thursday. The No. 3 Gryphons will face No. 2 St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in a 6 p.m. semifinal for the right to play in the championship match at 8 p.m.
