Men's Soccer Nipped by ACPHS

Box Score

YONKERS, N.Y.—After a scoreless first half of play, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was defeated by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 2-0, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Tibbetts Brook Park on Sunday.

For Sarah Lawrence (1-5, 1-1 HVIAC), three Gryphons notched shots in the first half, including on-goal strikes by Sebastian Hermann (Munich, Germany/Wilhelmsgymnasium) and Sebastiano Foresi (New York, N.Y./United Nations International School).

Between the pipes, SLC goalkeeper Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) had a flawless first half, stopping all six of the Panthers' shots on goal.

The shutout was finally broken in the 67th minute, when ACPHS (4-3, 3-0 HVIAC) struck first on a goal by Zak Giorgi.

Trailing 1-0 in the final minute of play, SLC looked to capitalize on a free kick opportunity as the game drew to a close. Warkus came out of the net to partake in the set piece, but the serve by forward Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) was defended by ACPHS keeper Adam Hoye-Simek.

In the final seconds, ACPHS drove the field, and Zach Hecox scored the Panthers' second goal as the final second ticked off the clock.

Warkus totaled nine saves, while Hoye-Simek finished the game with three.

Sarah Lawrence continues its streak of league games with two road games this week. The Gryphons travel to Berkeley for an 8 p.m. game on Wednesday before facing King's on Saturday in Edison, N.J.
